I trade longer-term positions — sometimes holding trades for days or weeks — so my needs differ from short-term scalpers. I joined SolidECN because the high leverage and low costs were appealing, but I wasn’t sure an offshore broker would suit a swing style.

One of my biggest concerns was overnight swap fees. Thankfully, they offer swap-free accounts on request, and support helped switch mine without trouble. That alone saved me a noticeable amount, especially on multi-week positions like the EUR/GBP trade I held recently with zero swap charged.

One of the first things I looked into was whether they offer swap-free (Islamic) accounts, because overnight interest can eat into long-term trades. It turns out they do have a swap-free option on request, which was a relief.

I got my account switched to swap-free fairly easily by contacting support, so now I can hold positions overnight without worrying about accumulating swap fees. For example, I held a EUR/GBP trade for almost two weeks and didn’t get charged any interest thanks to that account setup. The trading conditions themselves have been steady over longer time frames – spreads don’t jump dramatically out of nowhere, and execution is still instant even if I haven’t touched the account in a few days. I also like that they have a decent selection of instruments; I mostly trade major forex pairs and gold, but occasionally I venture into indices.

Algorithmic trading is my main focus, so finding a broker that supports EAs without limitations was a priority. I use a couple of custom Expert Advisors on MT5 to trade 24/7, and some brokers either restrict EAs or their servers can’t handle the constant activity.

I decided to test SolidECN with one of my less aggressive algorithms first to see how it performed. Setup was straightforward since it’s just MT5 – I loaded up my EA, set the parameters, and let it run on a VPS close to the broker’s server. Over the first month, I was pleased to see no random disconnects or downtime from their side.

The EA runs around the clock, placing maybe a dozen trades per day, and I haven’t noticed any odd behavior like delays in order execution. Latency is low enough that even my scalping algorithm can trade news spikes without getting crippled by slippage. One particular thing I liked is that there were no limitations on things like hedging or the number of orders – some brokers impose weird rules that can hinder automated systems, but I didn’t encounter any of that here. I also tried a more high-frequency strategy during a demo and then on a small live account and the results were comparable, which tells me the live environment is close to the demo.
