So true! In fact, the only thing we can be certain about is our stop-loss...we can predict this with 100% accuracy. I guess we are not really talking about forecasting in its true sense, but rather, added signal confirmation to lift the win/lose ratio a little more in our favour. That said, I did trade 90-Day Bank Bills back in the 80s on a 30/70 win/lose, and still made regular profits, so as long as the risk/reward is better than 1:2 a 50/50 will make gains. Good luck!

Agree 100% that just a little tweak here and there might tip the balance well in your favour!

Leverage is simply a facility to multiply your capital earnings power. Whether it's 1:100 or 1:1000, risk is still controlled by your stop-loss, which in turn is determined by your risk factor. If the result of a trade were 100% guaranteed, you would use the maximum leverage available and fully employ that leverage, because you couldn't lose. But reality is different...we NEVER know the outcome of a trade in advance, so we never fully utilise leverage. For example, if you open an account with $1,000 and 1:100 leverage, you could trade a $100,000 contract, but it would only take a 1% lo...

Agree! Any measure used that will keep you outside volatility will help reduce premature exits. As volatility dies down, prices tend to consolidate, and so the stop-loss automatically moves closer to the price action and not give back too much if triggered. 😎

If it bugs you when your stop-loss seems to be working against you at times, like giving too much unrealised profit back at exit, or triggering too frequently, resulting in a string of small, but annoying losing trades, this might be helpful.I deal with this issue by setting a Buy Entry Stop at the previous low less ATR, and Sell Entry Stop at previous high plus ATR. This allows room for a new trade to settle-in without risking too much.My Buy Trailing Stop is moved to the previous low IF the ask price is more than the entry price plus ATR, and the Sell Trailing Stop is moved to the previous h...

So true. Critical if you want to be around for the long-haul...know your broker! Don't worry about bonus offers, spreads, and all the promo stuff, focus instead on account terms and conditions, segregation of client funds, if the broker banks with a reputable bank in the same country that the broker is registered, licensing, regulation, legal system and legal jurisdiction.Of the above, my first priority is client funds segregation to ensure that should my broker become insolvent, my funds are protected. Second priority is to ensure the local legal system and regulators require segregation ...

Hi TakeItAbsolutely agree! When I traded Bank Bill Futures back in the 80s, I won just 3 out of 10 trades. My average win trade made around $250, whilst my average losing trade lost $50, so my risk/reward was 1:5, and my profit was around $400 over ten trades. The biggest problem we all face is to determine the potential risk/reward in advance of making a trade. Some traders use Fibo lines, others use S/R lines, and both provide a good guess. But the only real way to learn about your risk/reward is when you close the trade. Hence, this is why I choose regular account analysis to see how my stra...

Will we ever get there? Not likely! There's always going to be someone that wants to control another through either manipulation or violence, or both...it's how us humans seem to work. 😎

Thanks for your feedback. Actually, the Profit Factor is the risk/reward ratio, and the win/lose ratio is the number of winning trades as opposed to the number of losing trades. If you divide the number of winning trades by the number of losing trades, this is your win/lose ratio. Finding the Longest Losing Streak (LLS) is simply a matter of going over your trade history to find groups of losing trades clustered together. You are looking for the longest streak of consecutive losing trades, and calculating their combined value. The Largest Losing Trade (LLT) is the largest losing trade incurred...

Thanks for the feedback, and thanks for your point of view. Sometimes the explanation is more complex than the subject, and risk management is one such subject. But in the end it all comes back to 4 pieces of information - win/lose ratio, risk/reward ratio, LLS, and LLT. This information is easy to come by through simple analysis of account performance...true? With this information in hand we can instantly determine if we are meeting our account objectives or not, and if not, what to do next.My point here is to emphasize that risk management is less about following rules, and more about unders...
