The increase or decrease in prices that consumers pay for a standard basket of products is measured by the inflation rate in Somalia. Food & Non-Alcoholic Beverages (46% of total weight) and Housing, Water, Electricity & Gas (23%) are the two most important categories in the Somali consumer price index. Following by Clothing & Footwear (5%), Health (5%), Transportation (4%), Furnishing, Households & Maintenance (3%), Communication (3%), Tobacco & Narcotics (1%), and Recreation & Culture (1%).
A higher than expected figure should be seen as positive (bullish) for the SOS while a lower than expected figure should be seen as negative (bearish) for the SOS.
