Based on exports, Taiwan contributes around 70% of overall GDP on exports, and their composition has shifted from primarily agricultural commodities to industrial goods (currently accounting for 98%) over the previous 40 years. Electronics (33.1% of total exports), information, communication, and audio-video products (10.8%), base metals (8.8%), plastics and rubber (7.1%), machinery (7.5%). Mainland China and Hong Kong are the main exports partners, accounting for 40% of overall exports, followed by ASEAN countries (18.3%), the United States (12%), Europe (9%), and Japan (7%).
A higher than expected figure should be seen as positive (bullish) for the TWD while a lower than expected figure should be seen as negative (bearish) for the TWD.
