Euro Area Consumer Confidence
The Consumer Economic Sentiment Indicator gauges the level of confidence that consumers have in the economy in the Eurozone. About 23 000 households throughout the Eurozone are surveyed via telephone in this analysis. Each zone has a different number of households to sample. The inquiries concentrate on the current economic and financial condition, savings plans, and anticipated changes in consumer price indices, the general economic situation, and large purchases of durable goods. On a scale of -100 to 100, the Consumer ESI assesses consumer trust, with -100 indicating great lack of confidence, 0 indicating neutrality, and 100 indicating extreme optimism.

German Economic Confidence Weakens In January
German economic sentiment deteriorated more than expected in January as the economy remained in recession for the second straight year and inflationary pressure rose recently, results of a survey by the think tank ZEW showed Tuesday. The ZEW Indicator of Economic Sentiment fell to 10.3 from 15.7 in December. The reading was expected to drop moderately to 15.2.

German Economy Stuck In Recession
The German economy shrank for the second straight year in 2024 as the euro area struggles with global headwinds and the political and structural problems on the domestic front. Gross domestic product contracted 0.2 percent in 2024 after a 0.3 percent decline in 2023, Destatis reported Wednesday.
