Could we please have a way to reset a portfolio to new, removing existing data.
Here is my scenario ... the account that I am publishing here I had to restart (because I margined out and am starting again)
Because there is a new account number, I cannot publish the new data to my existing portfolio.
I could delete the account and add a new one, but as I have already discovered this will change my 'number' which will break any links I already have given out and will also not link up with the discussions.
Thanks

Well, the reason you're not allowed to reset an account is because it acts as your track record.
We wanted to create as much transparency as possible between a trader and his clients/followers, so if a trader restarts his account as per your suggestion, his clients/followers have no way of knowing that.
Hope that clears it up a bit.

Good suggestion biz101 and I will continue doing that for now ... but the widget relies on the portfolio number, as does the discussion thread.
I completely understand the transparency aspect, but I am also thinking about tidyness of the site. In the case I outlined above, yes I could just add the new account which will now mean there will be 2 accounts one of which will no longer be useful as well as 2 discussion threads both starting off with basically the same post ... although the second thread would also now have to explain why this is a second account.
Now I would like to suggest that anybody who has been following an account which then suddenly changes all it's stats and trades ... and doesn't think 'that's odd ... I wonder what happened' and then go read the discussion where I am sure at least one person (if not the owner) has mentioned it ... then should that kind of person really be looking at something that can be (if wanted) rather complicated? I think most of us would have a bit more intelligence than that.
So I guess now I will have to go and add yet another account and start yet another discussion thread for it ... but this I am going to want to leave my original account and thread there because I want to be as honest as possible ... does anybody understand that this could actually become not only a hassle, but a waste of webspace?

pavelr posted:Sorry, but I can very easily 'hide' (for want of a better word) my mistakes in the first account by simply deleting it ... could I not?
I also agree with Staff, if im searching for a trader or someone to learn from i would like to see all of his trading history and that should include the lost accounts too.
At the end of the day, if an account is successful then that account is successful and so is the trader. The longer the account is traded successfully, the more successful the trader. If I had seen that the trader had made some mistakes to start with (because of the comments in the discussion thread) and the learned from those mistakes and not made them again, I would be happier than a trader that seemed to be perfect from day 1.
Just a second thought, perhaps if this kind of function added a system generated message in the discussion thread telling people that the original account had been removed (and perhaps some basic stats), then an explanation would be more forthcoming???

even if you delete your account to 'hide' it, if someone already started discussing it, it would be still visible (staff, correct me if i'm wrong here). so then i can see the history of your accounts, and what people have said in the past.
an account can be successful in the beginning, but as time progresses, it is more easily seen if this is actually a successful system, or just some lucky trades.
what i would like to see on a members page is how many accounts he has opened and deleted - if i see he deleted 9 accounts recently, and his last one is successful, then something is fishy here..
don't you agree that from investor's point of view, it is a valuable information?

Yes, that's correct.
allanneagle, we would like to receive some more feedback from users on this matter at this point.
Thank you.

pavelr posted: don't you agree that from investor's point of view, it is a valuable information?I absolutely agree. It would be fantastic to be able to see all the previous transactions that relate to the same trader/system, and that is why I suggested being able to reset an account.
Perhaps instead of removing all the old trades, they could simply be flagged as 'other account trades' so a historical record is kept ... or perhaps the ability to have multiple accounts belonging to the same discussion thread?
And I would also like to see other opinions also (and as someone who has jointly operated a successful forum in the past) the way to do that is to encourage as much discussion as possible. I am only trying to help here :)

I like the idea of having an option to see even the history of deleted accounts also,
and for the option to be able to have multiple accounts per discussion - dont know if it will be usable since its like puting several posts from different categories into a one long post... but also would like to see other opinions

Why delete? Just have a button that says publish from date x, or set your history in mt4 from date x....
This would be quite hard to accomplish, since how do you control which information you want to share and which not?
Even if you choose to publish from date x, all the calculations take into account the whole account's history, and therefore won't be accurate and misleading if you choose to ignore everything that happened before date x.
