For those who are running multiple strategies on a single account (and do not use Meta Trader) it would be a great feature if it was possible to tag trades so that one could perform custom analysis on trades belonging to a single strategy.

For example if someone has a breakout strategy, a trend following strategy and indulges in the occasional punt based on nothing but gut feel it would be awsome if it was possible register 3 tags: BO for breakouts, TRND for trend trades and GMBL for gambles and then be able to assign one of those tags to each trade one makes so that one could to perform custom analysis on trades with a certain tag. It would work perfectly if it was done the same way that analysing trades by currency pair is done - using checkboxes in the custom analysis area.

Forgive me for bumping my own thread, but I'd only like to add that this is not really a suggestion for a new feature as much as an extension of a feature already available to Meta Trader 4 users to everyone else. So give this some more yes votes you bastards ;) !

If the dislike is from Ranesh of RBFX then please disregard it. We have personal differences stemming from my critique of his PAMM's performance and he is petty enough to dislike this suggestiong just because of that.

I see you chaps got a bit steamed up today. Chill, it's only numbers.
I think every member has one vote and it's none of our business where they put it. If you want more yes votes you could sign up with a dozen different usernames - that's a trendy way of getting vouches these days as well 😁 😁 😁

You're seeing Ranesh everywhere? It was not him. The No vote was me.

I think calling me a bastard when asking for my support is not a good idea.
I think 'please' is a word which could get you much farther than 'bastards'.

Let's wait and see how the other 'bastards' will like your suggestion ...

May I ask why you voted 'no' on this? Like I've said, I'm only asking that a feature available to MT4 users be extended everyone else. And I thought that it was clear from the context that 'bastards' was used in a humorous manner, not an insulting one.

agreed.
I'm looking for the same thing but with the use of Comment field. - https://www.myfxbook.com/community/suggestion-box/custom-analysis-by-comment-field/131505,1

You can already TAG a trade, by the comment field, but we can sort the comments just quite yet.

I see that others besides you and me are requesting a feature to sort by strategy within the same account.

You got my vote. Please vote on mine too. Same thing -

speki,

why would you not like this idea? It only makes sense for traders to analysis their trades by strategy

It can also be used for System developers to filtering logic.

The magic # is already implemented, so why not sort by Comment or Tag?

4+ pluses ?!?! Monkey balls!!! That's like a billion people in the real world - with that kind of popular support, you are surely already working on implementing this ;). BTW Will's idea of tagging trades using the comment box is very good too. Personally I don't care if its done using a dedicated button or using the comments.

I just read another users comment in the suggestion box and maybe we should have Both

--- the Comment Field - for sorting from EA's and for the use of comments as it was designed for

and

--- Add the TAG option.

this way we can still use the comments effectively(sorting and comments) and still TAG the strategies for sorting.

tagging is done manually by the user, and the comment can be done manually or implemented by our EA's.

From the sorting point of view, Tags could be better. You define your tags - BO, GMBL, PriceHitDailyPivot etc - and set it for your trades afterwards. They're less flexible, you can't improvise a reason like 'Bloomberg says Greece defaulted so I shorted EUR' etc, and they definitely need more development on the storage side. You have to store user's tags separately, provide a window for editing tags, etc etc.

Comments are already there but listing could be soo complicated ... the platform can include texts like [tp], Oanda MT4 stores the ticket number there, the EA can put its signature there too. So how would you want it? Get a list of distinct comments, like a list of traded currency pairs, so you can select which ones to include? That would be tricky considering the different ticket numbers stored by Oanda for example. You'd have a 25 page list, with different comments.

So if we can have too many different comments .. then can we specify a text which must occur in the comments like 'SuperEA'? Yeah, but then you have to enter this search text before you can analyse. Which means you don't have the simple checkbox selection anymore. And we don't want to enter 'SuperEA-Strategy1' or 'SuperEA-Strategy2' every time we run a custom analysis, so we will want to save these search terms somewhere for convenience ... which is not far from using predefined Tags.

You see it's not that simple, if you think about the possible scenarios ...

Same is true for Magic # as they can range from 1 -9999999 , but sorting Magics are incorporated.

Since the Comment field is designed to capture the EA's comment, sorting must be available in the future.

Whether we have two comment fields,

1 for EA comments
1 for our comments

and 1 for tags that we make and label for ourselves.

The problem I see is that we would run out of room on the current History ROW. We then would need two more columns to include 1 more comment field button and 1 more button for tags.

How about having the option to make the Comment become a TAG,

lets say an EA prints FGB in the comment field. This comment is repetitive through out the history, so having the option to TAG this one comment entry would then be available for the custom analysis.

Hmm..... indeed, an additional column for user-defined comment data, could be useful. If it's not messed up by the platform or the broker or the EA, it could be used for different purposes ... tags, notes, whatever ... but the current Comment field is just so-so.

Hmm... Speki has reminded me that Oanda uses the comment section to store the ticket number, which would make tagging using the comment section impossible for us Oanda users unless the comment section is modified... The idea of predefining tags and applying them to trades using a dedicated button seems more convenient...

It could be integrated into the comments section - we click on the comment button, the comment window slides down, like it does now, and along with it the come the strategy tag buttons. Voila!

Aw good idea. then we wouldn't need the extra Column.

I'm also facing the same scenario with Dukacopy to MT4. Comment field is overwritten by the broker making comments useless for EA's.
