I love this thread. I struggled with this question for years. I got sick of telling people, because it was always the same thing. What do you do? Me: Forex Them: Whats that? Me: ''EXPLAINS'' Them: OHHHHH Can you teach me etc etc etc..... Finally, I just started being kind of awkward about it and started answering things like. I make it rain, or I have a sugar daddy or I'm in the mafia. The funny thing about it is people really started believing it to the point my local favorite bartender told me people ask him what I do. Apparently the rumor now is I am a high end escort thats related to a drug lord in the mafia. I love it... My advice is have fun with it. Forex is a lonely isolating life. At least enjoy messing with people while you rake in the $$$$$$$$$$ 😁

Tell them you are a gambler, and they will probably stop asking you further questions:

I do not wish to discuss this very much misunderstood activity of trading in social settings or with new friends I don’t know well just yet. I am looking for some kind of friendly answer that is specific and uninteresting enough not to arise any more questions. Saying i work from home doesnt solve the issue, because it is immediately followed by “what do you do” question. I don’t want to lie completely, just want to avoid the trading part. Do you have any ideas?
I find it hard to tell people too lol, most people don't get it and it's hard to explain it without showing them and when I do, their face is priceless.

You can always say that you're an investor or you make money from stocks, even if you don't. That's because many people don't know much about the market and trading directions, and these are the most popular directions, which are familiar to everyone and maybe it will not lead to such long conversations and clarifications...

And I would just say that I am engaged in private business or that I work remotely, I never talk about my passion for trading openly. Anyway, no one can understand it except those I communicate with on forums. That's why I don't want to give any unnecessary reasons for ridicule or anything like that. It seems to me that this is exactly the case when you should keep your mouth shut.

It seems to me what question, how do you earn a living, can be clearly and correctly answered, without any deceit
I speak from experience: When I tell people honestly that I trade currency, no matter how often I repeat this fact, they keep thinking I am trading shares and they always ask me, 'how are my shares going?'
Maybe 10% of the time, I have someone interested and that understands I am trading something different. And they keep asking me questions to try and learn by talking to me. I love to talk currency, but when a person is keen to learn but knows nothiing, it is better they go to online resources like babypips.com.
Either way, people don't 'get it'. Truly, not many people trade currency.

The problem is when you show wealth by driving a fancy car and have an expensive house. You just tell them you worked hard for 10 years, invested all the money and now the investments gives you a nice monthly fee. Don't ever tell them that you are a trader and that your wealth comes from trading!

Usually most people are skeptical about trading as a source of permanent income. If it's a close friend, there's no point in being secretive, because you can trust him/her for sure. And if it's just 'friends', the best answer is to say you're a freelancer. If you try to make a joke or change the subject, I think it'll be suspicious and they won't give up on you.

You can say that you work online in finance. Usually, this topic is not attractive to people since most people's financial activities don't have the best associations. However, when I started blogging on Instagram, I started earning a decent amount of money. My friends immediately saved the changes in my life and began to be interested in what I do. It is clear that such tactless questions are unpleasant, but I told my friends that I keep a financial blog on social networks. The word finance has always made my friends dislike it. This way, my friends don't get involved in my mini-business, and I'm learning how to start a personal finance blog with help https://radicalfire.com/start-a-blog-complete-guide/.
