Both platforms have their fans so it is fair to keep them both updated even if MetaQuotes will plan to improve just MT5.
Well said, I also agree with you. Let's keep the ball rolling on both platforms!
The balls rolling? Good graphics hahaha

And now they are talking about the new MT6!! 🙄
So what would you advise me if I want t learn to code EAs (and I will take time)?
MT4? MT5 or maybe... MT6?
If you think that MT4 will still be running for years in the future and if it´s so much better than MT5, than i stick with MT4!

For now Metaquotes seems to be focusing on promoting MT5 and they're doing everything they can to push that platform on everyone. They've actually hiked up the monthly technical support fees for every additional MT4 server by about one third. (https://smnweekly.com/2016/12/22/metaquotes-software-hikes-mt4-fees-in-attempt-to-promote-mt5/) The news comes only days after MetaQuotes told its clients it is also raising the monthly support fees for MT4. The MT5 support fees remain the same.

Just look at the picture below you'll know which version is preferred by most traders.
If you take MT5 they would create MT6, MT7, MT8, MT... N 😂
KISS 😄
Happy new Year!

@mlawson71 Thanks for this source It's what the link says.
MetaQuotes Software, the developer of the most popular retail forex trading platform MetaTrader 4 (MT4), continues to hike support fees for the platform in an attempt to promote its successor MetaTrader 5 (MT5).
According to publications of the Finance Magnates site, MetaQuotes has sent its clients a letter informing them that it is raising the monthly technical support fees for every additional MT4 server by about one third.
As per the letter, the new pricing will be applicable for new orders for additional MT4 servers and the activation of inactive servers. The monthly payments for technical support of the already activated servers will remain the same.
The news comes only days after MetaQuotes told its clients it is also raising the monthly support fees for MT4. At the same time, the support prices for MT5 are remaining the same and the number or brokers offering the newer trading platform has already surpassed 100.
Calculations of the Finance Magnates show that currently the MT4 license costs USD 100 000, while that for MT5 stands at USD 25 000.
It appears that the price hikes are the next step of MetaQuotes to promote MT5 after it spent years in the shadow of MT4. With the introduction of the hedging option for MT5 this spring, however, the developer has started pushing hard for MT5. In November the company announced it will no longer be issuing updates for MT4 and will turn its development efforts entirely to its successor.
MT4 is used by hundreds of retail forex brokers, both small and big like FXCM, Forex.com, XM, FxPro, Oanda, IG Group, XTB, Saxo Bank, Alpari, Monex, Admiral Markets, etc.

And they’re continuing to update and develop MT5, this time the android version of it. (https://smnweekly.com/2017/01/19/mt5-adds-trade-filtering-sorting-options-for-android-platform/) MetaQuotes said on Thursday it the added chart filtering and trade sorting options to the mobile version of the MetaTrader 5 (MT5) trading platform for Android devices.

mt5 is horrible
So you prefer MT4 or another platform? What platforms did you use so far?
1.Horrible Order Processing
2.Execution Lag
3.Expensive
4. Metaquotes wants to control whole trading ecosystem from pre trade to post trade even clearing and liquidity provision and charge a penny each levels
They have become greedy and proud
I see, got your point! So what platform you are using instead?

Yeah, it's certain that they will focus on MT5 in the future. No doubt about it. Thanks for sharing the article!

I'm not worried about all the development going to MT5. I am worried about broker costs for MT4 going up, meaning they will eventually drop it and forcing everybody to use MT5. I spent a large amount of time programming my EA's and tools in MT4, and really don't want to rework all that for MT5.

Yes, this will be sad for you but how will you react when it happens? Will you eventually switch to MT5 or leave MetaQuotes and focus on other platforms?

as to my reaction to that is that I have not decided yet, I am currently looking at zorro and ninjatrader. I much prefer ninjatrader for programming and testing, but am concerned about the lack of fx brokers supporting it.
In short, I have not decided yet.
