Could anyone tell me if there is a product to load and use an external data feed into MT4?

There are numerous methods to do this.

Here you go.

If it looks too good to be true, it's probably a scam! Let the buyer beware.

This means they are not putting any NEW features in to MT4 and will instead keep developing MT5 with a view to converting more users over to it instead. We will still continue to see the odd update to MT4 to FIX any widespread bugs but not many updates here.

Do all brokers even offer MT5 yet? By the sounds of the comments here, MT4 is more efficient and runs much better than MT5? I will also need to start running a MT5 demo again to get ready. luckily I am not developing any EA's or utilities.

There are many more MQL5 signals for MT4 than MT5 - they would all need to be converted. Hopefully it is a long way off before the brokers stop offering support for MT4.

Guys,

MT4 is still being updated
https://www.mql5.com/en/forum/163217

So the message is that there will be no new features. I dont mind it as I dont use any of them.

So the panic messages like we have to switch to MT5 ASAP. No We dont need to.

There haven't been any meaningful new features to MT4 in like two years anyway. I'm glad they stop adding features, because who need things like the chat and such anyway, MT4 could use some performance improvements to the already established features.

I agree, the focus is trading, not socialising or doing anything else there! Spot on!

Both platforms have their fans so it is fair to keep them both updated even if MetaQuotes will plan to improve just MT5.

@lee42747 Yes of course, what is said in forums and portals is that they still prefer MT4 than MT5

Both should continue to present improvements to their characteristics. After all, some use MT4 and other MT5 and each one goes well with the platform that has chosen,

Unfortunately for all of us who like MT4 it looks like Metaquotes are succeeding in their efforts to promote the use of MT5. The company reported on Wednesday that the number of forex brokers using its MetaTrader 5 (MT5) trading platform keeps growing. (https://www.forexbrokerz.com/news/More-than-100-forex-brokers-worldwide-already-use-MT5). I suppose it's popularity will only spread from now on.

I agree with you about the growing popularity of MT5. In my opinion, these 2 platforms target different types of traders/brokers so they both have the reasons to exist and be supported. For brokers with not many instruments and focusing on FX, MT4 is a good fit to offer to traders I guess.

@mlawson71 No doubt it will extend. I can only hope that MT4 continue working very well as he has done so far.

MT4 is excellent for trading. MT5 is excellent for information, but it limits the trading a bit.

How does it limit the trading? Do mean you cannot trade some instruments or maybe not that many indicators are there?

MT5 is very slow compared to MT4 in terms of placing and processing of orders esp market orders

Exactly!

I see, thanks for clarifications guys! You got me interested to see how slow it is compared to MT4 😄
