I can tell you exactly how GKFX treats margin. They do not issue margin calls, is against their policy. They will do nothing until your margin% reaches 10%/5% depending on the market, I guess. Then they will start liquidating positions in DATE ORDER. That is oldest position first, regardless of size and P&L. Not from experience but from extensive conversation with them. 160% is good.

As to the currency conversion term: I was simply feeding back what Support told me, which was that (in effect) the EA would treat GBP6k like USD10k (based on the 'cash equivalent'): from what you say, clearly TEA works purely on the numbers and this 'advice' from Support isn't the case. If thresholds are in USD, then one works to the same levels in GBP.

That is right.
Be careful with GKFX's support as quality information comes only at the right time in the day. It would appear that evenings, weekends, nights, lunch breaks etc, are NOT the right times to talk to support.

tradingshed & danielsfx1979 - thanks for the advice. Helpful, as always 😄

As an aside, I got a response from Ivan in TEA support in the wee small hours regarding the auto-login element of the EA. He says they have this done, but are postponing a general release as they're working on adjustments to 'the mechanics of the EA' given the current level of DD being experienced. Sounds like some good news may be on the way... This also, incidentally, coincides with the option to throw in the initial 3 month payment against a lifetime purchase. Personally, I'd rather pay the monthly lease and look to make more from that capital over the next 20 or so months (breakeven point) - don't know about you guys(?)
Cheers

On the topic of Risk Levels, equity and account sizes, I wanted to throw in my 2 cents.

I am not a believer of employing large capital (ie 10k each pair @ RL1 as mentioned somewhere) just to make sure that in the event of a rally there is enough money to cover for a 5,000 pip run. This is because for the majority of the time markets will be ranging and all that money will not be used. It will not be working for you. Expecially with leverage of around 400:1 there is no need for so much money. Probably the rule of RL8 for 10/12k is a balanced view. IMO what is important is that extra money is available to be put in at short notice to increase equity.

Let's start with the assumption that someone has 100k and that (as per website) RL8 is good for a 10/12k. If we want to have 10 times that to feel comfortable during big rallies, it is not necessary to put a further 90k in the account 'just in case'. Run the EA on RL 8 with 12k and keep the extra money somewhere else during normal times, feeding it in the account on a need basis.

There has been a lot of talks about leverage also in the last few days. Often in forums I hear that high leverage is dangerous, should not be used etc etc. IMO the higher the leverage, the safer the account as, (if you have a predetermined strategy) you can employ less capital to trade the strategy. (like in the case of Tom's EA). I would sleep much better at night with the 1000:1 from the russian brokers 😲 than with 50:1 😁

I also agree that TOMs need more than 50:1 and all USA residents should......investigate options.

To give perspective, and for entertainment purposes, I enclose some reports below.

This is a demo account that I have been running since November. Its purpose if to give me 'worse case', 'what if' etc. scenarios. It is running 8 pairs at RL 3, for a whopping total RL of 24. As the account started with 10k, this is nearly 4 times the recommended RL. I would have expected it to blow in a few weeks. Instead, it is still running and is producing around 40% a month, although with some scary DD 😲

Having said that, DD% has never exceeded 50%. Interesting.

Hi, Tradingshed
I totally agree with both your points. Also my demo accounts with all 6 major pairs with rl3, grow faster and less dd in recent situation. I believe it is because Tom Ea favors pairs are wining and slow add lossing positions based on total available cash (my obsevation from comparing demo vs live).

Those who are getting double trades.....

Are you running the EA on a VPS? If yes... is your VPS running windows 2003 server? If yes.... the problem with windows 203 server is that it allows multiple log-ins.........

Flopps, you are right. I was having big problems when I had a VPS with WS2003. I was logging in from multiple locations and, although I never got double trades, I would close an MT4 instance under one log in only to find that it was still open and trading on the next. It beats me but my advice is if you are still using WS2003, make sure you always log in from the same place :-)

You can log in from multiple locations... you just have to do so as a 'console'. I believe this issue was fixed with newer versions of Windows server

HI, Flopps, Tradingshed,
thanks for the shareing!
I faced with the issue of login VPS with different sessions one month ago, but NO double trades problem. andsolved finally as the same advice from VPS support to Flopps' suggestion.
but recently my GBP/USD paire double traded at 0.21 lots size with different time.
2012.01.31 17:04 Sell 0.21 lots at 1.57572, TP: 1.58179
2012.02.02 05:05 Sell 0.21 lots at 1.58417 TP: 1.58179

I am not sure this is EA bug or real strategy for this EA. I think it is not VPS login issue.

Hi

I also have two trades open at .21 at different times. I'm hoping this is part of the strategy

I too have the second gbpusd trade for the same lot size as an earlier trade but I am thinking this is actually a reduced lot size on what would have been larger but because of the SL trade hit before we don't require as a big a lot increase on this trade with one position less in dd to cover.

Pretty sure that's just because market is closed - no ticks to activate, should be ok when market opens. I have been leaving my platform open over weekend with Tom's left activated as I noticed it didn't always activate straight away when the market opened like sometimes for up to 20 mins after open & I had watched it trying to modify trades but unable to. Not sure if this is due to server congestion with lots of clients all trying to activate at once or what.

The EA will activate when the market opens.

For the issues with activation - Yes, EA will became activated once market gets opened.

As for the double trades - if entries took place at the different time and had different price - than this is not a bug, but piece of trade stacking strategy

If trades were opened at the same time and with same price - than this is probably something that you should report to us at : [email protected]
( Deep explanation: most likely this bug is related to slow time of response of brokers server, EA tries to place order first time -> no echo from server -> EA repeats trade -> server responses on both request and you're seeing 2 trades.. We will implement additional delay time and extra check round in order to avoid this. I hope this will be included in the next EA update which is supposed to come out soon )

Would I be better with this or a 400:1 leverage.
I'm not very good with this leverage stuff so please remain patient.
Thanks in Advance.

If it's leverage your after this one will give 1000:1

For Tom's EA i don't think there's any point in 1000:1, you'll be margin called before you can even use that much of the leverage. 300:1 or 400:1 is really good enough.

Still ongoing. Have minimum set up now setting 1 on gbp /usd DD currently a 45%. It doesn't know which way to go. Not lost any more money yet, but also not made any. Hoping this goes down soon, so i can switch back to eur/usd only.
