And whoever says don't trade news, is plainly stupid. A major central bank, ie a G3 CB, is THE news, the QE and the market in many instances. In an artificial world where both equities and bonds move in the same direction, where you have massive correlations ignoring a change in markets, means you gonna get caught in whatever it is, a tantrum, a position reallocation or whatever. I just don't get the current spat of massive text book-like volatility either, but for sure relying on technical analysis alone, I don't get that either.

Looking at what was said and from most comments, did most of you get wiped out? It was such collection of one-sided views that I couldn't help but think of some of you here a few times today. I didn't expect anything like that but some of the people here were way too focused on technical charts and patters that couldn't help it. When you have a major central bank in a QE who cares about technical info?

Hah, reading your comments Inari makes me think right away you must be British... such a one-sided negativity towards the EU (Germany?).Anyway it was an interesting day. Greece missed the payment to the IMF, as expected, but they key will be it payment back to ECB and EFSF. From what I read today missing the ECB payment will automatically trigger a cross-default and Greece will be a goner for sure. Although unusual, there is a grace period of 60-90 days or so on the IMF loan and still negotiations are, apparently possible. The key will be if indeed the euro will move down lower. Too bad that brokerages are closed and cannot enter any EUR/USD shorts atm, wonder where the EUR/USD will shift by the time they open in a couple of hours in Asia.... Any thoughts on whether the eur/usd will be lower during European hours than during Asian hours?

Yeah, you are right. But news reports are saying they capped the ELA at the previous max levels, which should still be enough for a couple of days? Key is the June 30th IMF loan repayment. Will be interesting what happens next. One of the key trades I had/have in mind is CHF/JPY short if nothing positive comes out before/after Tuesday.

I couldn't sign up after a few unsuccessful attempts, had to re-send documents. Customer support was rather good, but after I got an email strangely rejecting yet another of my docs to open an account, after promising to check the customer support never ever responded after that. Overall - I say move along, there are other brokers out there.

I agree. High leverage is very dangerous if you don't play it out well. And for that you, especially in the now more volatile market, could prove out very tricky. I tend to think that any leverage at x100 or above is way mind- and account-blowing high.

Errrm if you can buy more lots that will obviously affect your P&L. Your profit factor will not be affected by leverage ONLY if you buy the same amount of lot as you would buy or higher/lower/no leverage. In other words if you don't use one of the benefits of higher leverage, ie buy more lots for lower nominal balance. Say you buy 100,000 EUR/USD at no leverage = around 113k USD. 1pip gain = 10USD per pip as you say. Now, if you have x10 leverage you can buy the same lot for only 10k, and if you can still afford the 113k USD investment it is quite natural that you will make the sa...

While not directly forecasting I like to have a look at Reuters, Bloomberg and other major news agencies to give me a feel for a mix of real events, data and what not that is blending with the market and different technical forecasts.

This place is a good start to see what people do and get advice. Copy, learn, read. A lot of reading and studying the market, techniques and trading strategies helps. I wouldn't probably go anywhere above x20-x30 on an EA. Now that volatility is back and on an EA which can't gauge the fear and the sentiment I would say x10 time leverage sounds about fine. That's my thoughts. But like Ivan said, that should be up to the person using the EA how much risk is willing to take for the money on stash. What if you have an EA which trades very frequently and lots of cash to invest than x10 isn't that bad a return either if you are generating 1% return, that would be 10%.

This account was a hedging account and had to go in the opposite direction of my main account's positions. Mistakes were made. The actual position that hit me should have been the other way around but the order slipped in quickly and the ended up buying into the same direction as the other short-term trade from the main account. Should have just cut the losses much sooner even if I kept holding it after messing up the hedge. The the drop hit me much sooner than expected. If you open any half-decent news you would see that they are talking about the major central banks and how they (at least some) are planning to get out from the uncharted territory of this unprecedented QE. There are many points which don't make sense to me. The biggest reason why some have been wiped out I will put it out to the central bank expectations which are dictating the markets across asset classes, not only FX. There are various ways to hedge - my take is options and derivatives probably offer the best hedging for FX, but most are not available to retail investors, even less on regular FX platforms. I have heard of semi-institutional platforms where along with FX you can trade stocks and bonds, and there you can customize your FX hedging with options but on such platforms each trade has to be around USD10k before any leverage.
