You can trade currency pairs based on their volatility and how profitable you think they can be for you. With the right strategy and analysis, you can improve your trades. Like I did with USD/JPY and USD/CHF with IB. You can look at different pairs and their pip value will probably depend on the pair you are trading.

Yeah keeping the leverage pretty low can work well for an effective risk management.

See you can practice how to use stop loss correctly to keep a check on your trade. This will also help you to minimize the losses. There is not a lot that you’ll have to do but with certain trials and practice, you’ll get the hang of it. I also started with a little knowledge with IB and Fxview but I kept practicing and understood how things work in forex.

@Garey I used to think that too but when I actually used leverage, it kind of increased my capital efficiency. It also works well during low volatility periods. I was recently trading with ib and I worked with some highly leveraged positions but the result was pretty good so there’s that. I think there is more to leverage and we can actually use it for our benefit. Just sharing my 2 bits here.

Yes, the risk can be high with a high leverage but you can always deploy some risk management techniques to reduce the possibility of high loss.

You are absolutely right. With the increase in price, trailing stops also get dragged with it. But when the price stops at one point, the new stop loss price remains at the price it was dragged to. This automatically protects the downside and locks in the profits as the price reaches new highs.

For every trader, success comes differently. Some traders are happy with 1-2% profits while there are many who don’t get satisfied even if they are making 25% per trade. It is all a matter of acceptance and believing that you can do better.

Try not to be so scared of a broker so much. They are essentially for a trader and just simply go with low commission and reliable trading platforms. Like I have always used brokers that don’t charge so high and the services are really good as well. Since it worked out fine for me, I am okay with it. I’ve used IB and Fxview mostly. Both are different kinds of brokers in a way, but when it comes to my particular trading needs, they work just fine.

Yes, that’s true. If a trader looks at just one feature, it won’t work. There are a number of things that must be considered if you want to make sure that you make a good broker choice.

I find fxtm and fxview to be quite alright. Using them for the low commission charges and spreads. Fxview is charging me $2 and fxtmn $4 for entry and exit. And as per slippage, the platform's quite balanced, I’m using MT4.
Which pairs are your least favorite to trade? And why?

Actually I am fairly new in exotic pair trading and mostly practicing them in demo. With major pairs I am sure of strategy but want to increase my profits. Do share the strategies you use for exotic pair trading! Thanks!

When the spreads get huge according to my time zone, trading gets very unprofitable. So I totally agree with you that exotic pairs can be very useful in these tricky situations. I also trade other pairs as well like the major pairs like GBP/USD and EUR/USD, depending on the time I’m trading in. That’s why I use brokers with lower swap/rollover rates and spreads at all times. Currently using Fxview and IB, which ones are you using?

Hey, the answer is simple. Just look for a low commission broker that is also regulated and has good trading conditions.

I think under no circumstances should stop loss not be used, it really is not worth the risk. I have suffered massively in the past when I was too casual and paid the price in terms of losing all my profits. I have made a fresh start with IB and fxview and vowed to never not use sl.

The stats are good. But the only thing that I feel is that you are risking too much by using 1:500 leverage.

Well, fxview’s been around for awhile now. Dug into their company’s history and credentials a lot before opening ECN with them. I think they’re a good choice for those looking for a high leverage, they are giving up to 500x. Spreads are the lower side too. And I don’t think there’s anything wrong with offshore brokers as long as they are regulated. A fixed and a rigid mindset can be very limiting to a trader.
