Canada BoC Interest Rate Decision
In Canada, the Bank of Canada's (BoC) Governing Council determines the benchmark interest rate for the country. The Overnight Rate is the official rate of interest. Having been established at the top limit of an operating band for the money market overnight rate since 1996. Bank Rate was fixed at 25 basis points above the weekly average tender rate for three-month Treasury bills, which was the case from March 1980 to February 1996.
A higher than expected figure should be seen as positive (bullish) for the CAD while a lower than expected figure should be seen as negative (bearish) for the CAD.
