The change in retail sales from one month to the next in Japan is measured by comparing the aggregated sales of retail products and services during a given month to the same month the previous year.

A higher than expected figure should be seen as positive (bullish) for the JPY while a lower than expected figure should be seen as negative (bearish) for the JPY.

Japan Exports Growth Slows More Than Expected

Japan exports growth weakened more than expected in March partly reflecting the impact of US trade tariffs, while imports recovered moderately, official data showed on Thursday. Exports increased 3.9 percent on a yearly basis in March, slower than the 11.4 percent rise in February, the Ministry of Finance revealed.
