The services industry is the most important, accounting for 79% of gross domestic product (GDP), in the UK. The most important sectors within services are: government, education, and health (19% of total GDP), real estate (12%), professional, scientific, and technical activities and administrative and support services (12%), wholesale and retail trade (11%), financial and insurance services (8%). Industry accounts for 21% of GDP, with the main components falling into the following categories: manufacturing (10% of total GDP) and construction (6% of total GDP). Agriculture contributes only 1% to the country's gross domestic product. On the spending side, the GDP is composed of three components: household consumption (which accounts for 65% of GDP), government expenditure (20%), and gross fixed capital formation (17%). Exports of goods and services account for 28% of GDP, while imports account for 30%, subtracting 2% from the country's gross domestic product.
A higher than expected figure should be seen as positive (bullish) for the GBP while a lower than expected figure should be seen as negative (bearish) for the GBP.
